Dear Claysburg Kimmel Students, Staff, Parents and Residents:

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I am honored and very excited to be your next Superintendent of Schools. The Claysburg Kimmel School District is an outstanding community pillar due to the hard work of our students and staff and the outstanding community support.

I would like to share with you a little bit about myself and my family. First and foremost, I am a husband and father. My wife, Barbara and I have been married for 26 years and we have a 10 year-old daughter named Madison.  We currently reside in Duncansville.   Barbara is an occupational therapist with CAMCO Rehabilitation and provides therapy to students at various school districts throughout Blair and Cambria Counties.

Professionally, I was a Business Education Teacher and Secondary Principal for 19 years at the Westmont Hilltop School District (1990-2009), before serving as the Elementary Principal/Director of Elementary Education at the Cambria Heights School District for 8 years (2009-2017).  I was elected to the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Principals’ Association, for which I provided representation for elementary principals in the central region of Pennsylvania from 2013-2017.  Prior to coming to Claysburg Kimmel, I was the Superintendent of the Harmony Area School District in Southern Clearfield County.  I deeply believe in a quality and comprehensive education for all students. The Claysburg Kimmel School District is known not only for its sound academic programs, but also the excellent extracurricular programs offered to its students. I take very seriously the trust you have in our school leaders and fine staff in ensuring the success of all our students.

My mission as your next Superintendent is to apply my passion to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging while helping students to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially. I believe it is critical to every student for their success and graduation from high school that they are provided good academic and social habits along with skills necessary to pursue and achieve their goals and dreams.

With Great Bulldog Pride,

Darren J. McLaurin, Superintendent
