Scholarships

Students can search for millions of scholarships online through websites like www.fastweb.com.  Below are some scholarships that have been available to Claysburg-Kimmel students in the past. Not all scholarships are available every year and deadlines and eligibility vary each year. It is recommended that students submit applications before the deadline to avoid any problems. Scholarships that are currently available will be highlighted.

Penn State Micro-Scholarship Program - Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to particpate and can earn up to $4000/year for a total of $16,000 by enrolling and participating in the online grant. Scholarships are primarily available to prospective Penn State students, however, there are several other universities that are now participating in the program. Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship
—The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Eligibility for the application is limited to high school students seniors. Go to www.wendysheisman.com for more information. Deadline October 2.

AES Engineers Scholarship - Go to http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm to apply. Deadline is Oct 6, 2018.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship—Students must be enrolled as a full time high school senior with plans to enter a 4 year college at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution.) Critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided) Students must be involved in extra curricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and maintain a grade point average of 2.0. Coca-Cola Scholarship—Students must be planning on pursuing a degree at an accredited US post-secondary institution and currently carrying a 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year. For more information visit www.coca-colascholars.org.  Deadline October 31.

ELKS - Most Valuable Students Scholarship Application—For more information go to www.elks.org. Deadline November 27.

WTS Central PA Scholarships - Numerous scholarships are open to female high school students interested in post-secondary education in transportation. Applications are available http://www.wtsinternational.org/centralpennsylvania/scholarships/   Deadline: December 6

AXA Achievement Scholarship- Students must demonstrate the following characteristics: Ambition, drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and the ability to succeed in college. Interested students can download and application at www.axa-achievement.com. Deadline December 15.

Burger King Scholars Program - Students must be high school seniors and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Please visit www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram.  Deadline December 15.

ACT Student Champion Scholarship -
This award recognizes one student in each state who has taken the ACTs. Students must have a composite ACT score of 22 on a single test date or a 3.0 GPA. Applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions. Deadline December 31

National Wild Turkey Foundation Scholarship - Students must hold a current NWTF membership, support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports, be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education and have a GPA of a 3.0. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline January 1. 

Pennsylvania JCI Senate Scholarship Program - The U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation will begranting two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan tocontinue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges,universities or vocational schools. Checksawarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and theeducational institution of the recipient’s choice. Interested students should go to www.usjcisenate.org. Deadline January 9

Central Pennsylvania Mensa Scholarship--The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education and be a resident of the area of participating local group of American Mensa. Wal-Mart Scholarship—Log on to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information. Deadline January 31.

Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship- Interested students can apply at FFA.org/scholarship. Students should check eligibility at FFA.org/scholarships (view "Frequently Asked Questions" tab). Students do not need to be FFA members to apply. Numerous scholarships available through this website. Deadline February 1.

Blackwood Music Scholarship - Awarded to high school seniors intending to pursue a career in instrumental music performance. For eligibility requirements and an application go to www.blackwoodarts.org. Deadline February 1.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program—Up to $5,000 per year of college could be awarded to you to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Please go to www.kfcscholars.org for more information. Applications are available from Deadline February 9.

The PACB Foundation Scholarship Fund—Applicants must be a dependent child of a parent working at least 1,000 hours per year, for a minimum of two years, for a regular member of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline February 23

Best Buy Scholarships--Students in grades 9-12 who have solid grades plus community service or work experience are eligible. Apply online at www.at15.com or www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com. Deadline February 15.

Cargill Community Scholarship Program  - Interested students should visit www.ffa.org keyword: scholarship to apply.  Students do not have to be in FFA to apply. This program awards $1,000 scholarships to 350 high school seniors in the U.S. who live in a community where Cargill has a business presence. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activites. Each applicant must have a signature from a Cargill employee on the application--visit Cargill Animal Nutrician 392 Frederick Road, Martinsburg, PA. Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation Scholarship - 6 separate awards for any seniors who will be pursuing studies in the medical field or allied health care field.  Visit www.phnfoundation.net/healthcare-scholarships.aspx. Deadline February 15.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program-Seniors who will be enrolling at a four-year college, majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Design, and who are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries are eligible.  Please visit www.buickachievers.com for more information. Deadline February 27. 

Norfolk Southern - High School juniors who are sons or daughters of active, retired, or deceased employees of Norfolk Southern who plan to enter college in 2014 are eligible to apply. The National Merit Scholarship Corporations administers the program so students must also participate in the PSAT. Go to https://programentry.nationalmerit.org/CBTKLGJP to complete, review, submit the application. Deadline February 28.

Big 33 Scholarship—Current high school seniors who are enrolled in a public or accredited private school in Ohio or Pennsylvania, who have attained a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA on a 4.0 scale) for the previous two academic years (grades 10 and 11) and who are planning to continue his/her education beyond high school in an accredited institution of higher education or technical school. PSECU Scholarship—Students must be a member by December 31st to be eligible. You can receive more information on the scholarship application process and membership requirements by calling 800-237-7328 or visiting the website at psecu.com/scholarships. Deadline February 28.

Bedford Rural Electric Cooperative Scholarship—Students interested in continuing their education at a 2 or 4 year accredited post secondary institution, and the parents or guardian primary residence must be served by the cooperative. Applicants’ are required to submit a 300 word essay describing whey they deserve the scholarship. To request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Applications are also available at www.bedfordrec.com.  Deadline is March 1.

Hermine Solt Student Scholarship--
A $500 scholarship for a student seeking higher education in a business related field.  Interested students should visit www.paeop.com. Applications are also available in the School Counseling Office. Deadline March 1.

Through the Looking Glass and its National Center for Parents with Disabilities and their Families—Students must have at least one parent with a disability. For more detailed information please visit the website at www.lookingglass.org.  Deadline March 5.

The Bedford County Historical Society's Mary Alice (Hall) Mock Memorial Scholarship Fund - Open to Bedford County students. Students are required to complete a research project pertaining to Bedford County History prior to the application for scholarship award. Upon registering with the Society, students will then complete an application, provide 2 letters of recommendation, and a guidance counselor's certification. Applications are available in the guidance office.

ARC Federal Credit Union Scholarship—A parent or guardian must be a member as of the date of the application. If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Application deadline March 3.

Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) Scholarship - The award consists of three one year scholarships worth $1000 each. Scholarships will be awarded to two students from each of the PenSPRA's three regions: East, West, and Central. The scholarship will be awarded to worthy high school students who plan to pursue a career in a communications field (i.e. journalism, English, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, etc...) The candidate should have maintained a 3.0 GPA and have been accepted to or applied at a two or four-year college, vocational-technical school, or other institution of higher learning. Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association - A $1000 scholarship available for seniors. Students must write an essay on student speech. Applications are available in the guidance office. Only one entry from Claysburg will be accepted. Return to guidance by March 20

United Steel Workers – District 10 Scholarship—An applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter of a member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 local union participating in the Scholarship program, or the son or daughter of a disabled or retired, or deceased member of an affiliated local union who was in good standing with the United Steelworkers at the time of retirement or death.  Applications may be obtained upon request from participating local unions. SAT’s should be taken by no later than the January test date. Application deadline March 15.  

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund—Students must have a GPA 2.5 or higher, be accepted at an accredited four year college or university, and have demonstrated leadership through community service, extra curricular or other activities. Please see Ms. Hinkledire for more information. Deadline March 15.

Herman A. and Mary E. Friedman Scholarship—The Kiwanis Club of Altoona will award scholarships for incoming freshman students from Blair County who enroll in a degree program at the Altoona Campus of Penn State University. Deadline March 15.

Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania
Students must have a diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorder confirmed by a physician, have been accepted to a post-secondary academic or vocational program and be a legal resident of Western/Central PA. Applications are available in the school counseling office. See Ms.Hinkledire for more information. Deadline March 16.

Donna Sheehan Nursing Scholarship—This scholarship is for students interested in a career in nursing. If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Applications are due in the guidance office no later than the end of the school day on March 17.

The Zack Hinish Foundation Scholarship - Seniors graduating from any Blair County High School are eligible. Applicants must be a Special Education Major or Nursing Major intending to receive either a B.S. or B.A. degree. Applications are available in the guidance office and are to be returned to the guidance office no later than the end of the school day on March 17. 

Bessie Levine Memorial Nursing Scholarship—Applicants must be pursuing a degree in nursing. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 17. 

Scott Douglas Sparks Memorial Scholarship—This scholarship is for students interested in majoring in science, math, linguistics, or international studies. If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline March 17

The David D. Brozgal Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is for students pursuing training in a medical field at a post secondary school and have a GPA of a 3.75 or higher.To request and application please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline March 17

Blair County Civic Music Foundation Scholarship - Applicants must be a resident of Blair County and be pursuing study/training in the performing arts. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 17. 

The John E. and Elaine M. Smith Education Scholarship - Applicants must be a senior entering the field of education and has a financial need. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline March 17.

The William E. (Bill) Frank & Swiss Club of Altoona Memorial Scholarship - Priority will be given to students who have a parent, step-parent or grandparent that is a member in good standing of the Swiss Club of Altoona. Any senior who has been accepted to a post-secondary school with financial need is eligible to apply. Deadline March 17.

Todd Gardner Sparks Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship--Available to a graduating senior from a Blair County High School who is attending a 4 year post-secondary educational institution who is majoring in Performing Arts/Theater Arts. Preference will be given to applicants attending Penn State Altoona or Shenandoah University/Conservatory of Music. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 17. 

The Oakes Family Scholarship--Applicants must be graduating from a Blair County High School, attending a post-secondary educational institution in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Clearfield or Huntingdon County, and majoring in accounting. Applications are available in the guidance office.   Deadline March 17. 

The Kiwanis Club of Altoona -Scholarship for incoming freshmen from Blair County who enroll in adegree program at Penn State Altoona. See Ms. Hinkledire for anapplication. Deadline March 17.

The Pennsylvania Association of Medical Suppliers Scholarship—Students who have overcome physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment and supplies are eligible to apply. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application or more information. Deadline March 20.

Pennsylvania School Counselors Association Scholarship - $1000 award to seniors pursuing a post-secondary degree. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline May 20.

Edgar Snyder and Associates “Words to be Heard” Scholarship Contest—Students are required to either create a presentation that discourages underage drinking and driving, or create a proposal to prevent distracted driving, such as texting while driving.  Applications are available online at www.edgarsnyder.com. Deadline March 23.

Blair County Bar Association Scholarship—Applicants should be planning to enroll in a full-time degree program at an accredited college or university. Only applications for students in the upper 10 percent of their class will be considered.  If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline March 29.

The Thomas Bailey Memorial Scholarship For UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital--
Applicants must be graduation from a Bedford County High School, Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, documented a significant amount of community service in Bedford County, and attend a 4 year college or university majoring in the field of human health care. Dr. Bert and Lucile Wiley Memeorial Health Professions Scholarship Program—Students must be a resident of Bedford County and accepted into a health professionals program of study. Visit the following website for more information and an application:https://goo.gl/5GCGWA. Deadline March 31.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship -

The Carol Jo Sicheneder "Mrs. S" $4000 Memorial Scholarship

Given by the Salon Professional Academy to graduating seniors in the Altoona, PA area who are planning on attening the Salon Professional Academy. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline April 1.

Jennie Dively Gardner Scholarship
 – given by the Claysburg-Kimmel School District in honor of Mrs. Jennie Dively Gardner, elementary school teacher in the Greenfield-Kimmel Schools in the late 1920’s.  Mrs. Gardner was the daughter of the late M.A. Dively, Superintendent of Blair County Schools in the 1930’s and 1940’s.  Deadline is April 1

George S. Dively Scholarship – presented by George S. Dively Foundation in his memory.  Mr. Dively was a member of the first Claysburg High School class.  This is awarded to a student planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Deadline April 1.

Levi H. Walter Scholarship – presented by the estate of Bruce Walter to honor his father Levi H. Walter, an educator from Kimmel Township.  This award is given to a student pursuing a post-secondary education. Deadline April 1. 

D.E. Brumbaugh Memorial Scholarship – presented by the estate of D. Emmert Brumbaugh to a graduate planning to attend a post-secondary institution.  Deadline April 3.

McCabe Group, Inc Scholarship - presented to students attending either Bucknell University or Saint Vincent College. Deadline April 1

Claysburg Area Community Scholarship – presented by the Claysburg Bicentennial Committee to honor a graduating senior.  The award recognizes a student who has given time and talent to his/her family, school, and community. Deadline April 1

McEldowney Academic Scholarship - This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Dick McEldowney, successful Altoona businessman, to support our youth in their dreams of higher education. Applicants must be involved in a community service and should fall into a middle income bracket. Application due to Ms. Hinkledire on or before April 3.

Warren C. McCarty Memorial Award – given by the Claysburg-Kimmel Education Association to a student planning to enter teaching profession. Deadline April 3.     

Mark S. Leslie Athletic Scholarship - awarded to a male and female athlete who have exemplified achievement in the classroom as well as shown strong leadership skills and athletic success. Deadline April 3

Keith Claycomb Scholarship - awarded to a male and female student who have attended a welding, fire/rescue/EMS course through CK or the GACTC. Deadline April 3. 

Charles R. "Butch" Metzgar Scholarship - awarded in honor of Charles R. "Butch" Metzgar, a graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel, businessman and entrepreneur in the Claysburg area to a student who plans to attend a post-secondary trade or technical school and who plans to remain in the Claysburg area after completing his/her degree to pursue a career as an entrepreneur, promoting business in the Claysburg area and creating employment opportunities for other Claysburg residents. Deadline April 3. 

The Kristen E. Aungst Memorial Scholarship - given in memory of Miss Kristen E. Aungst, a dedicated student and cherished member of the the class of 2011, awarded to a CK graduating student pursuing a two or four year degree. Deadline April 3.

Claysburg Rotary Scholarship - The Claysburg Rotary Club will award this scholarship in the amount of $300 to a senior demonstrating dedicated involvement in school, family, and community activities. The student must be pursuing a two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline April 3.

Claysburg Legion Band Award – presented to two members of the high school band. Deadline April 3

M. A. Dively Book Award – presented in memory of M. A. Dively who devoted his life to education and served many years as the Superintendent of Blair County Public Schools, by his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Gardner.  This is awarded to a student of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding ability, achievement, interest in English composition and English literature. Deadline April 3.                         

Robert (TEACH) Linsenbigler Memorial Scholarship -Given by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 516 Hollidaysburg to a student enrolled in a post-secondary school and who is descendant of a veteran of the Armed Forces. Deadline April 3.

D Michael Claycomb Athletic Fund -
Scholarshipswill be awarded to a male and female athlete attending a post-secondaryprogram. Applications are due to Tammy Claycomb - PO Box 432 Claysburg,PA 16625. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 3.

William Roy Walter "WWII P.O.W." Armed Forces Award
- Presented in memory of William Roy Walter a 1940 graduate of Claysburg by his daughter Diana G. Walter-Dively. Students are able to be awarded $150-$300 and a plaque. Preference will be given to any senior enlisting in the armed services. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 3.

The Keppra Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program—Students must be an epilepsy patient or a family member/caregiver of an epilepsy patient, seeking an undergraduate degree, demonstrates academic achievement, possesses a strong record of participating in activities outside of school and serves as a strong role model. Pennsylvania Land Surveyors Foundation - Any senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree or Associate Degree in Land Surveying. Instructions, eligibility requirements and applications are available at www.psls.org/scholarship. Deadline April 10.

Bedford Business and Professional Women’s Scholars—Scholarship given to a female student of a Bedford County school graduating this spring, planning to attend a two or four year college.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 31.

Cesare Battisti Club Scholarship—The Cesare Battisti Club has begun a yearly scholarship program for graduating seniors intending on furthering their education and who have at least one immediate family member (parent/guardian, sibling, grandparent) who is an active member for at least one year at the Cesare Battisti Club. Deadline April 10.

Blair Garden Club of Altoona Scholarship—Any senior planning on majoring in agriculture science, horticulture, floriculture, landscape architecture, forestry, botany, or plant pathology is eligible to apply. Please see Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 7. 

Kids Chance of Pennsylvania Scholarship--Students who have a parent who has been killed/seriously injured as a result or a work related accident that meets the criteria of the PA Worker's Compensation Act and that has demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be within the ages of 16 to 25 and be accepted by an accredited, post-secondary institution. Applications are available at https://apply.kidschanceofpa.org/  Deadline April 15.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc Scholarship - $1000 Scholarship for students who are a Valley REC member or students who are a dependent of a Valley REC member. Students must also be planning on attending an accredited post-secondary institution as a full time student for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applications are available in the guidance office and online. Scholarship Deadline April 15.

Heidelberg Country Club Scholarship - Presented by the Heidelberg Country Club to a senior intending to further their education. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 and/or a score of 1500 ontheir SATs. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline April 1.

Blair County Law Enforcment Officers Memorial Foundation Scholarship - Given to a graduating senior from a high school in Blair County. Students must be pursuing a career in law enforcement. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 1.

Nason Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship - A onetime $1000 scholarship awarded to a student intending to further their education to become a nurse or a healthcare technician in one of the following schools: Claysburg-Kimmel, Hollidaysburg, Northern Bedford, Spring Cove, Tussey Mountain or Williamsburg. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline April 15.

The United Survivors Memorial Scholarship--
Given by the Victim/Witness Program at the District Attorney's Office. Students must be planning on attending a post-secondary school and have lost a family member, relative or close friend to a violent crime. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 15.

McCready Family Scholarship - Scholarship award to a high school graduate from Cambria, Somerset or Bedford County who plans to pursue an academic degree relating to communications at UPJ. Online Applications can be accessed and completed at http://app.smarterselect.com/programs/37669-Community-Foundation-For-The-Alleghenies. Deadline April 21.

Student-View Scholarship Program—High school seniors who plan to attend a 4-year college, community/junior college or career school can simply log on to www.student-view.com  and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded through a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May. Deadline April 22

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International—An organization composed of key women educators award a $500 grant-in-aid to a graduating senior from Blair, Cambria, or Clearfield County. Students must plan on majoring in education.  If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline April 30. 

Pittsburgh Regional Food Service Directors Scholarship
—Students must be planning on enrolling at an institution of higher learning majoring in a food service related field and be maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average. For an application please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline April 30.

Blair County Retired Teacher’s Association—A $1000 scholarship to a deserving graduate of a Blair County high school. The selection will be based on the student’s enrollment for the coming summer/fall semester in an accredited college pursuing a degree leading to a teaching certificate. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 27th.

Blair/Clearfield Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired—Students or parents with a vision impairment that cannot be corrected to 20/20 with glasses or contacts. See Ms. Hinkledire for more information. Deadline May 1.

The Stephen V. Mielnik Memorial Scholarship
- This scholarship is presented by the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind and awards $1000 to a graduating senior planning on attending college who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline May 1.

Altoona B'Nai B'rith Lodge #2465 Scholarship-$500scholarship to any Blair County high school graduate who will beattending college or other educational pursuit this fall. See Ms.Hinkledire for an application. Deadline May 15.

AYSO Region 1539 Scholarship - This scholarship is available to players and/or volunteers who have at least 3 years of experience with AYSO Spring Cove Region 1539.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 15

The Rudy and Anna Mae Labor Scholarship - This scholarship will provide annualscholarships for students who will be attending South Hills School ofBusiness & Technology in State College, Altoona, or Lewistown. Thefund will provide twelve $7,000 scholarships for 2015 to be appliedtoward the cost of tuition and books. Students can apply by visiting www.southhills.edu. Deadline May 15.

Work Ethic Scholarship Program - The PA Chamber Education Foundation has teamed up with the Mike Rowe Works Foundation to give scholarships to Pennsylvanians interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship -

Helen B. Hughes Federation of Democratic Women - Given by the civic organization in Bedford County. Any Female student graduating in 2013 and accepted to a post-secondary institution that resides in Bedford county and is affiliated with the democratic party is eligible to apply. Deadline June 1
